Life's
Lessons ..............
Most of my poetry speaks to my philosophical and
spiritual side in the vein of romantic relationships (past)
pertaining to my own life experiences, particularly victimization.
It goes without saying that those of you who have had this
experience will relate and those of you who haven't may empathize,
but never really understand; and that is a good thing!
Of course, this was some time ago, and I have learned
and grown a lot since then. Still the scars of victimization
in the "nth" degree remain, where I can forgive but unfortunately
not forget. And thanks to wonderful friends and my music,
I am now someone who has learned, grown and reinvented myself to be
the happier, more peaceful person I am now.
Although I attribute a lot of what happened to the ignorance of youth,
growing up over protected and being naive, the world was quite
a different place then for women, and I believe my generation of
women paved the way for the improved communication and
enlightenment which exists today for women as individuals.
In my quest to be honest and open to new and different
experiences in which I wanted to experience all of life's "highways"
if you will, I left myself open to a lot of "byways" and pain.
Some of this was simply being too idealistic. I
always saw the good in people and none of the bad. I wanted to
believe that the "bad" could be turned around and made "good", but
what I discovered was the truth in that old adage, "You can lead a
horse to water, but you can't make it drink!"
So this goes out to
all you who have "savior" complexes. Save yourself!
Otherwise go down with the ship! Stop kissing all those frogs
and hold out for your prince. He's out there, but if you are
wasting all your time with the frogs, he'll never find you!
In a nutshell, the choices we make in life, and those we
ultimately make as a consequence of them, good and bad,
shape who we are today.
Hopefully mine have made me a
better, more empathetic person, friend, kindred spirit, and
positive force; one to be reckoned with rather than walked on.
I thank God for my faith and the ability to express myself
through music, art and writing. My thanks to all of you have served as true friends and mentors, now qualified to hang out your very own "shingle", if indeed you did
not own one when we first made our acquaintance! Peace and Love, Geri |
